FilmIns.com movie and special events insurance

I thought I would never have to use those java applets on the websites I work on, but I had to with filmins.com the leading entertainment insurance site … I just thought java applets are pretty much icing on the cake but they had their uses for that project. For one thing, the website had to catch clients from artsy-fartsy Hollywood. I simply couldn't’t just go with simple HTML coding, it would’ve turned off our visitors – they’re quite used to high production value presentations.

When I had a discussion with my client at the beginning, we were talking about the kind of content that was going into the website and the programming languages that were a perfect fit. They need sections about film and movie insurance as well as parts for festivals and trade shows. Site event went as far is including coverage for unforeseen weather that could damage the production. Final part that wrapped up the site was the artist liability section incase an artist would make offending remarks.

I was surprised to learn that FilmIns was selling different types of film production insurance. Actually, it was the first time I heard about “Hollywood insurance” as my Jeff likes to call it now. Jeff and I worked on the FilmsIn project before he began working freelance for insurance websites.

It was definitely part of our job to make the website more attractive to film companies and producers – using HTML would’ve made the website look template-ey. We considered several applets to use, including Jannal, Neon Java, Lake, or slide show. Considering my relatively limited experience in using Java (I’m more on PHP), we loaded several types of applets on the home page. These included Jannal, Neon Java, Lake, and Slide Show.

We eventually settled on using Jannal on the home page for special effects, although we plan resizing the image so it loads better on the browser. We were pretty confident that the moving spotlight of this applet would make Hollywood producers just curious.

We used Slide Show on the page of each type of insurance program to show the kind of entertainment or movie productions that are covered by each type of insurance program. So far, so good. Now I’m looking forward to the visitors now.
