Paraiba Tourmaline Project

My work on this website http://www.jewelry-industry-guide.com/ literally made me green with envy (or blue green-ish if you prefer).

That the website is owned by Paraiba Tourmaline dealers only means that it features an online shopping cart. Our reasons for choosing the Java Open Source shopping cart instead of developing it myself was basically for us to come at a win-win situation. A good shopping cart costs hundreds of dollars to make per site, yet the designer is limited in the design.

The Java Open Source comes in two versions: the small business and the large business. I used the small business version.

The website was turned into a business site by adding two lines of code – one for loading an applet and the other for defining the “buy” Javascript function. Together, these two lines of code launch a frame that lasts for as long as it is not closed. This frame keeps tabs on the latest purchases made and keeps a running total of the expenses within the website. This Paraba Tourmaline Cart sells a number of products ranging from loose paraiba gem stones to rings and pendents.

I initially made a one-time download of the shopping cart applet and its classes. I am quite sure that there are no delays in Paraiba Tourmaline shopping cart when users jump from one page to another – the applet is simply transferred from page to page and not reloaded. Items are bought and sold when users click on the JavaScript function “buy”. Orders are finalized when a buyers asks to send the Paraiba to a fixed address.

Java’s Open Source shopping cart has allowed me to work on the website’s design rather than on its back-end, programming side. This design in freedom was made possible because the memory of the shopping cart is maintained on the Internet browser, through links to JAVA’s virtual machine

With Java Open Source, the merchant does not need to upgrade his web hosting plan or even use the active server pages.
